I am always thirsty and I drink a huge amount of water during the day. So when I wake up in the morning I am usually begging for a glass of water. For a while now I have been drinking warm water with lemon first thing in the morning which is known to have many benefits. Warm water alone in the morning is better than cold because cold water can be a big shock to your body after hours with no liquids. Adding lemons to your water will benefit you in so many ways because they contain citric acid, potassium, iron, fiber, pectin, magnesium, and vitamin c. It’s a perfect little powerhouse.
Squeeze about half a lemon in a glass of warm water and drink it slowly before you eat anything. Also, wait 15-20 minutes before eating anything so that your body can reap all the benefits.
Lemon water helps loosen toxins in the digestive tract and increase the production of bile. It also gets your system moving which will help you poop in the morning and aid in constipation.
Great for Skin
Lemons jump start your liver to remove toxins from the body and blood and this greatly benefits our skin. By getting rid of all the yucky stuff our skin has less breakouts and glows. Vitamin C helps to produce collagen so wrinkles will be reduced as well.
Lemon water replenishes your body after a workout. It adds back all the salts and electrolytes lost to a workout without the extra sugar or added chemicals that is actually bad for us.
Helps With Joint Pains
Uric acid collects in our joints and causes inflammation. This is what gives us achy and painful joints. Lemons remove uric acid from the body and reduces the acidity of your body allowing you to be rid of that pain.
Lemon water attacks bacteria in our mouths and gut to give us great breath. That gives us another reason to enjoy some in the morning.
Strengthen the Brain
The potassium in lemons helps with brain and nerve function. Notice how alert you feel 10 minutes after drinking a glass.
When I have my mug in the morning it is one of the quietest times of my day. When drinking your lemon water in the morning make a small ritual of it. The smell of lemons is an instant energy booster so take some deep breaths. Don’t gulp it all, but enjoy the feeling of the warm water going down. Listen to some music, meditate, sit outside, or do anything else that you enjoy while you drink your lemon water. Take those few minutes for yourself before you start your busy day because chances are many of us don’t take time for ourselves during the day. Starting your day with some peace will keep you less irritated, stressed, or rushed. Once you do this a few times, it will become a great habit and your mind and body will look forward to the morning.
