Every year my girlfriends and I do a Secret Santa gift exchange, but this year we decided to make gifts for each other rather than buy something. We all got pretty creative and made very different things. I never truly knew how crafty my friends were, and how much fun making a gift could actually be. I gifted them with homemade lavender lip scrub and lip balm. After hearing about all the yucky things that lurk in beauty products, I have learned to make a few things. Not only is it more affordable than the comparable store bought option, but I know all the ingredients that my products have, and they work pretty damn well if I do say so myself.
Today I will share my lip scrub recipe with you. The ingredients are simple: coconut oil, lavender essential oil, vitamin e, and sugar. I used coconut sugar because it is not as coarse as the other sugars, and lavender essential oil because it is naturally soothing for dry lips. Make sure you use a lavender oil that is suitable for skin contact as some brands have additives. This lip scrub is conditioning and moisturizing, while providing a bit of protection as well.
Lavender Sugar Lip Scrub
1 Tablespoon of Organic Coconut Sugar (brown and cane sugar can be used as well).
2 Tablespoons of Organic Coconut Oil
2 Vitamin E Capsules or 1/4 Teaspoon of Vitamin E oil
3-4 Drops Lavender Essential Oil
1. Mix all ingredients in a glass bowl. If using vitamin e capsules, pierce them and squeeze out the oil. You can tweak the amount of sugar depending on how much exfoliation you want for your lips.
2. Transfer mixture to clean, sanitized containers. This scrub will keep for a few months in a cool dry environment.
3. Apply to lips and wipe off with a face cloth.
4. Enjoy your smooth lips.
