As my friends and I get older we look for different ways to celebrate our big days. We’ve done the parties and now just want to spend our birthdays with the people that matter to us. This past weekend a friend of mine decided to spend her birthday throwing axes….yes you read that correctly. We had an amazing axe throwing competition with all her close friends at BATL in Toronto (how very Canadian of us eh?). The whole thing took about 3 hours, with the first hour to learn and practice. Sadly, I learned that I am pretty terrible at this activity and didn’t even make it past the first round. I still had a blast and got to be active at the same time. Yes, parties and clubs can be a lot of fun, but birthday celebrations don’t always have to end up there. Over the years, we have done trampoline dodge ball, ice skating, and wine and yoga for our big days. I actually have a lot more fun doing these things because I get to be active and spend real quality time with my friends. The next time you’re at a loss for how to celebrate and you’re tired of that club scene, check the great activities your city has to offer. Chances are you will end up doing something really cool and fun, and you will also come away with a memorable birthday. Healthy birthdays are the best birthdays.
